Thanksgiving and The Backyard Brawl

November is a difficult month for me. My mother, who died on June 1st, would have been 79 on November 2nd. My maternal grandmother was born and died in the month of November; a very dear friend of mine died tragically at too young an age in November of 1982; my dear father- and mother-in-law both died in November; and my own father also died in November.

You’d think that November would be my least favorite month. But November means Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday.  Even when I was a little girl, I liked Thanksgiving a lot–almost as much as Christmas. What could be better than turkey with all the trimmings and pumpkin pie? And football?

This year Thanksgiving will include, in addition to the normal Thanksgiving fare, a tofurkey, vegan stuffing, vegan gravy, green bean casserole made with soy milk instead of cream of mushroom soup, and probably a vegan chocolate cake since I have no idea how to make a pumpkin pie without eggs. ☺  Yep, the boy is coming for Thanksgiving.

The boy is driving here from Pittsburgh on Wednesday, then back to Pittsburgh with his dad for The Backyard Brawl between WVU and Pitt on Friday. Then they will return here after the game Friday and we will have Thanksgiving leftovers on Saturday. Mmmmmm. Thanksgiving leftovers!☺

Let’s go, Mountaineers! Beat Pitt!
