Governor Cuckoo

I don’t know whether you have been following the news story about Mark Sanford, the governor of the state of South Carolina. He disappeared last week. He jumped into an SUV as soon as the legislative session ended and drove off alone. No one, not his staff, not his security detail, not even his wife knew where he was. His wife said that he might be off somewhere writing. His staff said he was hiking the Appalachian Trail. All this happened over Father’s Day weekend, and Sanford has four young sons. Then the word comes that the governor is in Argentina. Argentina?

It turns out that he has been having an affair with a woman who lives in Argentina. His wife kicked him out of the house two weeks ago. The local newspaper had copies of some of the e-mails the governor and his paramour had written to each other. So, after lying, lying, and lying some more, the governor finally ‘fessed up during a rambling press conference.

Sanford joins a long line of conservative Christians who engage in behavior that violates the sanctity of marriage and the “family values” they claim are so dear to them. From Newt Gingrich to Mark Foley, to Vitter, Craig, Ensign, Sanford…there has been a seemingly endless string of self-righteous Christians talking the talk but not walking the walk. “Do as I say, not as I do.” Can you say hypocrisy, boys and girls?

These are the kind of people who oppose marriage equality because they say that permitting same-sex couples to marry threatens the sanctity of marriage. But they never explain how extending equal marriage rights to same-sex couples threatens the marriages of opposite-sex couples. That’s because same-sex marriage doesn’t threaten the so-called sanctity of marriage. The sanctity of marriage is threatened by infidelity, drug and alcohol abuse, financial stress, domestic abuse, etc.

I’m not much of an expert on marriage. I’ve only been married once–35 years and counting. LOL My DH is about as close to perfect as they come. He not only never complains about my knitting, he praises it and brags about it to others. And he is definitely a world-class enabler. Just a little while ago he went out to buy a card for a former co-worker who is retiring. And look what he brought back for me.

Yep, he’s a keeper for sure. ♥♡♥

My kitties for the most part don’t bother my knitting anymore–they have outgrown that sort of thing– but Siobhan still sometimes chews through my working yarn.

Just the other day, I had accidently left the working yarn of my computer socks (the pair I keep in the drawer of my computer desk to work on when I’m reading news and commentary on my computer) outside the drawer when I closed it before going to bed. When I got up the next morning, I noticed the yarn hanging out of the drawer, and when I was putting it back in, I discovered that, sure enough, the yarn had been chewed on.

The most likely culprit is Siobhan. Loretta is too dignified to stoop to doing such a kittenish thing, and Shanny is too scatterbrained. LOL

Anyway,  I thought I would introduce Siobhan to my newest kitty since they both like to chew on yarn. Don’t they look sweet together?
