Happy Birthday To Me

Originally published  Monday, October 19, 2009

Last Saturday was my birthday. I’m not sayin’ how old; I’ll just say that I haven’t quite reached sixty and leave it at that. ☺

Regardless of how old you get, you’re never too old for a birthday dinner, a birthday card, and a nice birthday present.

I got not one but two birthday dinners. On Thursday we had dinner in a Carlisle restaurant called Alibi’s. I had pulled pork, sweet potato fries, and a Guinness. It doesn’t get much better than that. LOL I also got a nice take-out dinner from Red Robin, complete with an order of onion rings. Yes, I splurged. Red Robin has the best onion rings ever.

I got a really cute card from my DH, and a really nice present, too–a beautiful pair of earrings. The earrings are doubly special because they were designed and handcrafted by our niece Erin in Florida. She’s a very talented jewelry designer and maker. You can see (and purchase) her designs on her Etsy store.

In addition to the lovely green-and-gold earrings pictured at the top of this entry, I also got a simpler pair in green and silver.

Here are some pictures that will give you a better perspective of the size of these lightweight and brilliantly handcrafted earrings.

Do you like the background in those earrings pix? Yep, you guessed it–Bounty paper towels. I pull out all the stops. LOL

In addition to receiving a card, two presents, and two birthday dinners, I also got to spent my birthday doing what I love most–knitting and watching college football. Both the Mountaineers of West Virginia University and the Trojans of Southern Cal won, so it was a happy day no matter how you slice and dice it. And the knitting was superb. I made lots of progress on St. Enda on Saturday.

And yesterday I finished sewing in the second sleeve of Gjende and got most of the neckband completed. All that’s left is to finish hemming the bottom, then washing and blocking.

I’ll be so happy to finally finish Gjende. It’s been over two years in the making. LOL

And ASJ (Adult Surprise Jacket) is progressing nicely, too. I worked on it some yesterday as well.

And to top off the festivities, not only did the Steelers beat the Browns (aka the Pumpkin Heads) yesterday, miracle of miracles, my beloved Buffalo Bills actually won a game. Hard to believe, I know. But the Bills beat the New York Jets in overtime. Will wonders never cease?
